Upon completion of his architectural studies in 1982, Michel Desmarais practised as a junior architect with the Conseil de la Santé et des Services Sociaux de la Région Montréal-Métropolitain (C.S.S.S.R.M.M.). For almost two years, he visited most of the hospitals in the Greater Montréal area to supervise and participate in the preparation of reports to be used in drawing up reduced-scale standard plans of the institutions. He was also personally involved in drawing up these plans.

In 1983, he joined the firm “Les Architectes Rivest-Jodoin” where he completed his professional training. A year later, in 1984, he became a member of the Ordre des Architectes du Québec.

In 1990, he became team leader and junior partner of the firm “Les Architectes Rivest-Jodoin & Associé”. In this position, he co-ordinates and supervises the preparation of studies and computer-assisted technical drawings. He is responsible for preparing budgetary estimates and checking the requirements of government and municipal codes and regulations applicable to the various projects. He acts as assistant manager for certain projects and is responsible for co-ordinating relevant documents with engineers and other consultants.

Since 1983, he has been involved in over 400 construction, renovation and recycling projects in hospital, commercial and corporate buildings.

Michel Desmarais is a member of the Ordre des Architectes du Québec and of the Association des Architectes en Pratique Privée du Québec.
